Who We Are

We are Miguel do Rego and Gabi do Rego and together, we have a beautiful family of … two.

We launched Sharp N Cozy during the Covid-19 pandemic when the steakhouse Miguel managed was forced to shut down for the shelter in place order and were left without a source of income only to be blessed with the opportunity to launch Sharp N Cozy.

During the lockdown and stay-at-home orders, home cooks have been using their knives like never before. We give home cooks the luxury to get their knives professionally sharpened without leaving the comfort of their own home! We pick your knives up, sharpen them, and hand them back to you all in the same day. Miguel has been working in restaurants for over 10 years including, since 2014, Bay Area’s famous Brazilian steakhouse, Espetus, and has learned, acquired, and taught professional knife sharpening skills using Japanese whetstones. I would say it has become more of an obsession, but that’s just me. Sharp N Cozy wants to bring you joy and ease even while you tear up when chopping some onions.

It all started with one simple post on the neighborhood social network, Nextdoor, the night before Espetus temporarily closed for the stay-at-home order. Since that post, offering our neighbors Miguel’s knife sharpening expertise, Miguel has been sharpening over 150 knives a week. Whereas we were only able to post to our neighbors in Millbrae, we asked family and friends to post our services on their Nextdoor feed in Foster City (Wilson) , Brisbane (Guilherme), South San Francisco (Helen), and San Francisco. That is when it really took off. Customers have left scores of reviews and referred Miguel’s services to family and friends and even posted their satisfaction on their own Nextdoor accounts. It was amazing and so touching not to only see hundreds of people satisfied with their sharp knives, but how they went out of their way to bring us more business. With all the support, compliments, and requests to keep this service up and running, we decided to do just that!
